Pastor Ralph James was born on September 20th to Mr. Ralph Jordan and Ms. Lottie James in Meridian, Mississippi. His early schooling took place in the Hinds County School District in Jackson, MS. He graduated from Terry High School and later went on to serve in the U.S. Armed Forces for 21 years.
On Sunday, March 16, 2003, Rev. James announced his calling to the gospel ministry. He proclaimed the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ for the first time on Sunday, September 21, 2003. His subject was "The One Loss I’m Glad About" with the text taken from Philippians 3:13-14. Rev. James was ordained on January 12, 2014 by Pastor Arthur Sutton.
Prior to coming to Mt. Moriah, he served as Associate Minister of The Progressive Missionary Baptist Church, Jackson, MS under the leadership of Pastor Arthur Sutton. While an associate minister at Progressive Missionary Baptist Church, he was provided with numerous opportunities to preach and teach in such areas as Sunday school, Tuesday Bible Study, and Vacation Bible School. He has also been called to carry on revivals in Pastor Sutton’s absence. He served as the assistant treasurer for the Laymen’s Ministry and youth pastor.
Additionally, Pastor James was given the chance to become a youth leader/teacher at the General Mississippi Baptist Convention as the Middle School Division Leader. Since 2006, he has served as the High School Division Leader and assisted humbly and cheerfully in creating one of the greatest Youth Departments in the country. In 2020 Pastor James accepted a position with East Mississippi Baptist State Convention and The Congress of Christian Education as the Executive Youth Director.
Pastor James has continued to further his education by enrolling into a higher learning institution, where he is pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Principals of Interdisciplinary Studies at Jackson State University. Once he completes his B.S. (Spring 2020), he plans to continue his education and obtain a Master’s Degree.
Pastor James has been married to Sharmelitta Harris since January 5, 2008. She is a constant source of encouragement and support since their meeting in the military in 2001. Together they are the proud parents of four beautiful children: SharCoria Me’Li-Corin, Willard Joseph, Christopher Bernard, and Caleb Leonard.
With the help of the Lord, Pastor James continues to learn, teach and proclaim the Gospel of Jesus. His favorite scripture is Philippians 3:14, “I press toward the prize of the high calling which is in Jesus Christ.” It is this scripture that encourages him to keep moving forward with all of life’s trials.
